Now celebrating its 17th year, the 2019 Atlantic City Airshow returns to the skies above the beautiful free beaches and boardwalk in Atlantic City on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Visitors are in for a real treat with an electrifying, star-studded lineup that welcomes the return of headliners U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team and the GEICO Skytypers Air Show Team.
This year’s signature summer event will once again have an international flair when we welcome the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows. The Red Arrows display the excellence of the Royal Air Force and represent the United Kingdom both at home and overseas. The team consists of 11 pilots, nine of whom fly in the display. The team flies British-built BAE Systems Hawk T1 fast jets.
Every member of your family will enjoy this free one-day, mid-week airshow and the largest beachfront airshow on the East Coast. Those familiar with the event can attest to the breathtaking maneuvers by the Thunderbirds and their spectacular diamond formations and opposing solos, performed with magnificent accuracy and precision, all performed in F-16C Fighting Falcons.
Another highlight at this magnificent display are the GEICO Skytypers squad flying six World War II-era aircraft. The team’s flight demo creates a massive sky-written message by coordinating dot matrix-style messages with environmentally friendly puffs of white smoke. A computer in the lead aircraft uses a custom-program to send commands to the other five aircraft, resulting in several massive letters the size of the Empire State Building that are seen from the ground 15 miles in either direction. You will not want to miss the annual race between the GEICO Skytypers and the Miss GEICO Offshore Race Team. Miss GEICO holds numerous world speed records, and national and world titles. Air or sea? You’ll need to visit Atlantic City to see who wins!
For the ultimate VIP experience for viewing, consider the Premium Flightline Club. The Flight Line Club provides an unforgettable experience with all-you-can-eat lunch, unlimited non-alcoholic beverages and a premium view of the exciting aerobatic performances in the middle of the action at show center.
Super fans will want to start the week early. Leading up to the airshow on Monday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and new this year, Atlantic City will be hosting the first Red, White, and Blue BBQ as part of the opening ceremonies celebration for The Atlantic City Airshow “A Salute to Those That Serve.” Ticket holders will dine with representatives from branches of the military, and pilots and crew members who are performing in the Atlantic City Airshow. The one-of-a-kind beach barbecue will feature traditional barbecue fare.
Highlighting the event will be a night jump by the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team landing just a few feet from the seats! Tuesday, Aug. 20 offers a chance to beat the crowds and take in “practice day” when many of the pilots perform practice demonstrations at various times throughout the day.
The Atlantic City Airshow is a community partnership between the Greater Atlantic City Chamber; the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA); the City of Atlantic City; the 177th Fighter Wing of the N.J. Air National Guard; South Jersey Transportation Authority; FAA William J. Hughes Tech Center; the Atlantic City International Airport; David Schultz Airshow LLC; and many others. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is the host hotel for the event.
