When Heather Antolini and her son and daughter-in-law decided to buy Country Road Cabins in August of 2021, they knew first-hand how incredible staying in the cabins could be.

“My son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Anna, got married on the farm they own across the road, and because it’s a fairly remote location and there isn’t a lot of lodging out here, we stayed at the cabins,” said Antolini. “We absolutely fell in love with the place.

“When they went up for sale, I was about ready to retire from my job and wanted to do something different with my life,” she continued. “So we decided to buy the property together as a family, and create a legacy to leave our children and grandchildren.”

Previous owners Paul and Jennifer Breuer spent 25 years building the impressive accommodations, which include 17 deluxe log home cabins that come equipped with full kitchens, multiple bedrooms, hot tubs, gas grills, and fire pits.

“In addition, we have two hexagonal yurts that we rent out, the Love Shack and Sugar Shack, which include living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, heart-shaped jacuzzi tubs and showers in the bathrooms, and hot tubs outside,” said Antolini.

Country Road Cabins’ two treehouses are also incredibly popular. With all the same amenities as the cabins, both treehouses offer panoramic views of surrounding West Virginia wilderness and bubbling hot tubs where guests can enjoy the view.

“The Holly Rock Treehouse is built around a tree that comes right up through the middle of the circular room,” said Antolini. “There is also a hot tub and an outside deck, where it’s so peaceful and lovely. It’s my favorite spot on the whole property.”

The Tuscany Treehouse is a little larger and is anchored by trees on each side of its deck. It features a separate bedroom, bathroom and living room/kitchen, and a pull-out sofa, which makes it perfect for family stays.

“We also have high-end glamping tents that feature indoor and outdoor dining areas, sitting areas with TVs, air-conditioning and heating, and hot tubs,” said Antolini. “The only difference between this and a luxury hotel room is that the walls are canvas.”

Comfort is key at the cabins, which are open year-round.

“Some of the most wonderful comments we’ve gotten from guests are from those who come in the fall and winter to get away with their families for some quality time; they come for fall and winter hiking, to sit by the fireplaces, and to enjoy the cool evenings making s’mores around the campfire.”

For those who love the great outdoors, Country Road Cabins’ location in Hico, W.V., provides a wealth of opportunities to get outside. Located minutes from the nation’s newest national park, the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, the site offers access to hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, rock climbing, rappelling, and whitewater rafting.

“We’re located between Summersville Lake, the New River and the Gauley River, so anything you want to do on the water is here,” said Antolini. “There are breathtaking hiking trails, and quaint boutique-style shops in local communities, and we also have really good restaurants; the food selection is outstanding and most is locally sourced.”

Guests come to the cabins for many different reasons, including family reunions, weddings, or to escape on romantic getaways. Country Road Cabins offers a selection of packages, including a romance package that includes a bed of roses with petals leading to the entry.

“For a little extra, they can have all of the components for a steak dinner or a delicious breakfast, as well as champagne and custom-ordered cakes,” said Antolini. “We want this to be a place where wonderful memories are made that last a lifetime, so we make special occasions extra special.”

Antolini credits the staff for providing such an amazing guest experience, many of whom have been with the business for years. “Not a day goes by that multiple guests don’t come in and say that they love the beauty of the place and how well the staff treated them. They consider it their home away from home,” she said.

“There’s really something here for everyone, whether they want to come and relax for a few days, decompress and seclude themselves from the outside world, spend a romantic weekend or midweek rendezvous, or seek outdoor adventure,” she added. “Even on my worst day, I feel so blessed to be here owning and operating this business.”
