Celebrate autumn at Ladew Gardens’ second annual Garden Glow. Fall can be a magical time of year as cooler weather energizes people and crisp colors grab the senses.
One of our new favorite fall activities is the Garden Glow at Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, Md. Illuminated sculptures and hundreds of ornately carved glowing jack-o-lanterns are complemented by live entertainment, great food and spirits provided by local vendors, making for a fantastic event to start the season.
Garden glow occurs Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20 this year with a Garden Glow Pumpkin Carving Workshop on Oct. 16 and 17. At the workshop you can carve a pumpkin to be used in Garden Glow, provide some artistic input or simply watch. They even accept donations of pumpkins. It’s the perfect way to spend time outdoors during the fall season.
Named one of the top five gardens in North America, the 22-acre Ladew Gardens contains the original historic manor house, a seasonal butterfly house, a nature trail and of course, the acres upon acres of gardens. Some gardens have themes such as rose gardens with little tea room houses or drawing rooms. The famed topiary gardens depict scenes such as fox hunts. But history isn’t complete just by walking through and observing. Ladew offers lectures, classes and workshops, concerts and more. For a complete list of their offerings, visit ladewgardens.com.
