The trademark “The Greatest Jazz Festival in the World” says it all. For the past 30 years, music lovers in the Mid-Atlantic area have anxiously awaited for that great time in October as Grammy Award-winning artists converge in Southern Delaware. This year, Oct. 17 to 20 will have four days of great jazz music by 32 artists on five stages including the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, Dogfish Head Brewery, Cape Henlopen Performing Arts Theater, Epworth United Methodist Church and the iconic Rusty Rudder. The autumn is the best time to hit the shore, and between the weather (still warm!) and fewer crowds, Jazz Fest is the weekend to go.
At the time of this writing, the list of artists is huge, and still growing. So far, you can book tickets to see: Boney James, Brian Culbertson, Will Downing (with Mike Phillips & Avery Sunshine), Gerald & Selina Albright, Peter White, Norman Brown (with Euge Groove & Lindsey Webster) , Matt Marshak, The Four Freshmen, Steve Cole, Kim Waters, JJ Sansaverino (with Jay Rowe, Carl Anderson and others), Club Phred, Nina Simone, Richard Elliot (with Peter White & DW3), four80east, Kayla Waters, the 30th Anniversary Allstars (including Brian Simpson. Gerald Albright, Steve Cole, Nick Colionne, Mike Philips & Peter White), Jackiem Joyner & Alex Bugnon, and the 2019 Grand Jam (with Brian Simpson, Gerald Albright, Selina Albright, Alex Bugnon, Nick Colionne, Richard Elliot, Jackiem Joyner, Marion Meadows, Carol Riddick, Kevin Whalum, Kayla Waters, Kim Waters, Peter White). In addition to the jazz acts, there are many other events such as the Lewes Farmers Market; a Jazz brunch at Chesapeake and Maine; the Outlet Liquors Fall Wine Beer, & Food Festival; and a huge 2019 Closing Party.
It’s simply amazing to get these big jazz names in the best venues at the best time of year, the only thing that could go wrong is waiting too long to book your tickets. While all the venues are intimate enough in size that there really isn’t a ‘bad” seat in the house, why not try and get up close? Visit RehobothJazz.com today to book your tickets before you favorite shows or the best seats are sold out.
How can it possibly get any better? Let’s add in the “feel good” element: The festival is big on community involvement, working throughout the greater Rehoboth community with education programs supporting of nonprofits. Most notable is the Tunnel Cancer Center at Beebe Hospital. The Tunnell Cancer Center has more than 35,000 visits annually. When you purchase tickets, a portion is used to help fight the devastating disease of cancer, ongoing research and the purchase of new state-of-the-art equipment.
