May is the time of year that just about all anyone can think about is getting outside and basking in the spring air with the promise of even warmer, sunnier days. And the best way to keep from going stir crazy is to have something on the agenda to look forward to. Enter LOCKN’ Festival. This four-day, three-night festival held Aug. 22 through 25 on Infinity Downs Farm in Arrington, Va., and blends world-class music, local vendors and community involvement for an immersive festival experience.

The Lineup

The lineup has already been announced and includes more than 35 musical performances like Old Crow Medicine Show, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, The Revivalists and several collaborations with the Trey Anastasio Band and Tedeschi Trucks Band and more. While the lineup gives fans an idea of what to expect, there are still a few surprises still coming for festival goers.

The Festival

Let’s face it, the festival is all about the music and with a rotating stage, the music doesn’t stop. Musical performances run throughout the entire day and into the night and is known for creative collaborations and intimate sets. That doesn’t mean that checking out shows is the only thing to do at the LOCKN’ Festival. Head over to Participation Row, curated by HeadCount, to connect with local and national causes looking to better the future. Refuel with a variety of fare from Virginia and beyond from the food vendors located throughout the festival grounds. The festival also hosts the Virginia Craft Beer Magazine’s draft beer tent where you can explore the flavors of local craft beers.

Things to do

Begin each morning of the festival with a restorative Vinyasa yoga class held by Opal Yoga in the Garcia’s Woods section of the grounds. This multi-level class is great for beginners and experienced yogis alike.

Enjoy an hour-long swim at WaterLOCKN’ coordinated by the nearby Trinity Episcopal Church at a private swimming hole on the Tye River. Time slots must be reserved and proceeds from the excursion benefit children and families in Nelson County and internationally. Tickets can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com/event/3576769.

Bring your bike along with you and check out seven miles of trails at Infinity Downs Farm, cruise the campground and ride with pro riders at Wheelhouse.

Browse goods and meet the makers and vendors while picking up a memento at SHOPN’ at LOCKN’ to remember the 2019 festival. Vendors offer items from clothing and accessories to art and dyes. Shops are located in the Show Field and The Love Triangle next to Garcia’s Woods.

Sure, you can stay off site at a nearby hotel — shuttle options to the festival are available — but why not consider staying camping at the festival campsite? Several options are available including tent and RV camping, family and sober LOCKN’ campsites and VIP and Super VIP camping.
