It’ll make you feel like you’re wandering the streets of a German-style market, under a canopy of bistro lights on a chilly December evening: It’s the Under the Lights: Winter Market, in Bellefonte, Pa.

Bellefonte adds to its already-popular Victorian Christmas weekend, which runs from Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14. The Winter Market is set for 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. In 2018, the market had a unique lineup of vendors offering holiday gifts, plus food trucks and craft beverage vendors.

“Winter Market is just one of the fun things to do as part of the larger Bellefonte Victorian Christmas, including musical performances, horse and buggy rides and more traditional arts and crafts market,” said Melissa Hombosky, an organizer of the event. “We’ve also got great businesses in our downtown who will be open during the weekend.”

Throughout downtown Bellefonte, you can find a variety of shops that will be open for business, offering antiques, art, women’s fashion, jewelry and more.

“Victorian Christmas weekend with the addition of the Bellefonte Under the Lights: Winter Market has such a small-town, feel-good vibe,” said Shannon Wright, of Downtown Bellefonte Inc. “It really kicks off the holiday season for us, and more so, continues to create a sense of community.”

She said that, some of her favorite activities during the weekend are Santa’s arrival to Victorian Christmas festivities in a horse-drawn carriage, and trying a craft beverage down at the Winter Market.

Many members of the Central PA Tasting Trail participate, serving their craft beer, wine, spirits and cider. What’s better than a hot cider or a mulled wine on a cold winter’s night?

“You certainly won’t run out of things to do during this holiday weekend,” Wright said.

“We are hoping to take everything that worked from last year’s market and expand it to make it bigger and better,” Hombosky said. “We’ve reimagined the food and beer garden to include more craft beverage makers and food trucks. We are also attracting makers from across Pennsylvania to offer a more off-beat market than your regular craft fair.”
